The Name Game

Pia Furtado

Our Revue, scheduled to show July 8-12 at RWCMD's Bute Theatre, has commenced rehearsals. We've been at it for a week, but it feels as though we've known Pia, our director, for much longer than that. She has a warmth about her eyes, inviting you to share your thoughts and engaging you when she shares hers. Each of the directors we've worked with thus far have their own approach to analysing the text. Pia gets us to read our lyrics aloud, then interpret what they mean in our life... for instance, who am I referring to when I say "him"? Where did we meet, why am I dissatisfied? She's asked us to come up with our own storyline based on her criteria for our characters, and will even give us some flexibility to choose our costume designs. Wicked!

Luke McCall

The Birthday Boy and His Best Bud
Rad dude! Rad!
Luke is probably going to be really chuffed that I've dedicated a heading to him... He decided to have a birthday this week, and Jo kindly organised a night out for our group. The majority of us went a bit wild. To quote one from the group:  "I had five Budweisers, a Corona, and two jagger bombs... and this was meant to be a quiet one!" By the end of the evening, I was trying to get suspected individuals to down some water... to very little success. Next time I'll call it vodka.

Now I must rinse off my shoes, which were splattered with sticky mixed concoctions at least 5 times tonight. Note that I sound relatively sober.... It's because I am (no one knew it though, hehehe). Tommy's birthday bash is scheduled for tomorrow night, and I couldn't possibly go crazy twice in one week. Moreover, I've got my first rehearsal for Fleeced! Tomorrow afternoon. As much as I'd love to not have responsibilities, I'd much prefer having exciting things on the agenda. Going to Edinburgh for a month and performing a 1-Act show daily? Yes, please!

James Williams

So we found out what our final year show is going to be...  Stephen Sondheim's Company! I used to be extremely obsessed with this show. Now only mildly so, hehehe. James will direct, and we are all so keen on working with him again. We've had a two-day Sondheim workshop with him thus far, and a few of us performed in a gig that he directed for the Cardiff Story Museum a month or so ago. James' directing comes from the power of the body. Have you ever heard things like, "If you smile, you'll end up being happier", or "you'll get more energy when you sit up straight"? James explores how bodily changes affect delivery of lines. It's actually a very interesting and effective concept. Cannot wait to update you more on this front!

Sally Horton

Final thoughts for the night: My hairsprayed up-do has finally been taken out: it doesn't want to deflate!

Quality Quiff "Quelled"

What do you do when you Skype a lot of your friends over the weekend? You knit of course!

I'm so tired... Sal's signing out for the day! Peace and honesty. Two things you don't come by regularly...
Peace out
