The Next Adele

Remember When...

I was talking about bringing script after script home, trying to find monologues to perform in class? Well, after failing to find something good enough, I wrote my own. I began with a witty one about the perks of death, and I thought I had struck gold! It was funny at places, slightly sentimental, intelligent, and headstrong. Well, my friend Emma said it was too presentational. I was miffed with her comment at the time, but took her advice and sat down last weekend to pull other things out of my ass. After many failed attempts, I just pretended I was talking to Tom. It started out nicely enough, but then I just started crying. Don't be alarmed; I'm very used to crying nowadays so I just kept on writing, unsure of what was coming out of my hand, or whether it would actually be comprehensible when I read it back.

After orating to +Caitlin Roberts, I got my first positive review, giving me the courage to bring it to class. Jamie thought it was the most truthful thing I had presented so far (did I just cheat by making it so personal?), and then he asked me about my background. After finding out about my Filipino/Australian heritage, he asked me to say the speech in those accents. He also coaxed a bit of tagalog out of me, (excuse my spelling) "Kayana Tayo! Salamat Po. Sige, longonesa." Hahaha, if you're filipino, please appreciate that all I really know is food and private parts (but I wouldn't say those aloud, even if people don't understand, hehehe).

Score! I finally have a speech, one that no one will have done before, and one that I can act without looking like I'm acting, but most importantly, one that affected the audience. Writing about my ex and succeeding? I am The Next Adele.

But wait, we could also think of Adele, my little cousin who was born at the end of last year. She's the most recent girl of the family... but not for long.

The Next Adele, Pt 2

My beautiful sister-in-law is in labor, and I'm so excited for our family! Baby Horton has been long awaited; for the past week, I've been taking all of our breaks to refresh my emails to make sure I get the news as soon as I can. Well, the latest email (from 3hrs ago...) is below. I'm not saying Baby Horton will ever be "The Next Adele". I simply reused the title because it was uncanny that I could use it in two different ways. But Look! LOOOK!

+Phil Horton has a way with words

Okay... so like. Phil just sent me the most adorable photo of you know what.

You know who is an aunt.

You know, I might just start crying again!
