How to Have Fun on the Weekends

Wikihow

I feel a wee bit sorry for those of you who have come here for advice on how to have weekend fun. Aren't we all old enough to know that all you need is a board game, (playing cards, or mah jong set, depending on culture) and perhaps someone who's proficient in making cocktails? I'm sitting here at one minute to 2300 as my neighbors have just gotten home, shrieking, playing, clapping, and I bet Matt (who's bedroom abuts their living room wall), is really having the time of his life right now.

We are all secretly wondering what the neighbors do for a living, and whether they have any social etiquette at all. This is the second night in a row they've come in and blasted music, last night being a 3am return. Well, needless to say this constant party is perhaps the perfect way to have fun on the weekends! Keep going to avoid hangovers, drink heaps to discard social inhibitors, act goofy and most importantly, yell!

As you can see, I'm speaking with a slight twinge of bitterness in my "voice". Not because I am upset at them, but because I've taken a completely disparate path to "fun" this weekend, that makes me seem less "cool". The following are steps to enjoy yourself, if "yourself" is Sally Horton, because it seems I've got a very unique way of doing so.

Step 1: Be Okay with Plans Falling Through

On Friday, I thought for sure I'd be out and about Saturday AND Sunday evenings. Rebel. I'm secretly basking in the delight of having those plans disintegrate, and not having the social responsibility of turning up when I said I would.

Step 2: Find Doggy and Walk It

I walked Archie on Saturday (a rarity), and got stopped by quite a few passersby (a normality).

Step 3: Ignore the Rugby

But if anyone asks I was supporting England/Scotland this weekend :P

Step 4: Find a Makeshift Way to Stay in Bed with the Keyboard

This step may need to be adjusted based on personal preference and materials. I used a heap of blankets to prop the keyboard on my lap, and a pillow to support my back. It was very, very uncomfortable, but I managed to look at a bit of sheet music and play. Unlike James (my friend and accompanist who works best with chords), I'd have difficulty disseminating chords but reading notes wasn't too bad. Average sounding outcome.

Step 5: Find Long-Term Distraction

After chatting with Jules about my Tinder dates as well as my fruit stall man (who asked how old I was, if I was married and if I loved him), I was led towards a recommended book. After reading the first page, I couldn't believe Jules had suggested a young adult rom-com. After 6 hours, I couldn't believe a book of this nature could keep me entertained, even refraining from using the toilet, until I was finished.

Today, I started on another book by the same author, again finishing it in a short space of time. I'm hooked. Had Jules not prompted me to write this blog, I'd be going head first into another novel of her recommendation, and trust me, there are plenty.

Step 6: See Kate and Michael

We had some nice goss about me being a crazy gal in pursuit of more auditions - or shall we say forthright? About my tinder dates, and most importantly, about musical theatre. Oh wait, no, that's only most important for me. But I'm so glad I have a couple who live 5 minutes away and know more musicals that I do. I mean, combined knowledge works in their favor, and the ability to chat about their similar interest all the time is another obvious advantage.

Step 7: Make Smoothies

My favorite new recipe:

1banana
1 portion spinach
2 figs
2 plums
4 walnut halves
4 thin slices ginger
dash cinnamon
water
oats

It's delicious. Nutritious. and the final step to a perfect weekend.

Goodnight world! Here, have a screenshot of something I've been updating this week, as my photos aren't loading properly on here..
