Settling down in the States is not a chore.
Mom, Dad, Hammer and Ate Van (pronounced "ah-teh", my nanny/second mom) are the permanent inhabitants here. In order to comprehend the unique ambience of the Horton Household, I'll introduce you to the individuals.
Mother Dearest
My mother is an outstanding person; just look at her taste in clothes! She's always very active and cheerful, except when sleeping or rushing to church. What's something I've inherited from Ma? The ability to sleep on the floor and a love of dance and music. She is compassionate and child-like, sharing her joy through her beautiful smile (not shown here). Shhh... she turns 60 in five weeks!

hehehe, obviously I'm not obedient.
Daddy Mooks - "pop'n stop"
Daddy Mooks played ping pong with me the other night. What a challenge! As you can tell by his attire, Dad's more of a hunting guy, and his ping pong talent, he keeps a secret. Little did Ma know! She has been ping pong champion in tournaments among her work colleagues, so hearing of in-house competition, 30 years into their marriage? She's ready for a fight. Dad loves sitting in tree stands for the majority of the day, enjoying nature and telling us he'll bring home a deer ("Dee-ya"). He takes life very seriously, and makes for an engaging story-teller.

Hammer Baby
Hammer's Birthday is today, December 8. We are very excited for him as he turns 7 (somewhere in the 40s in dog years). He still is as jovial as can be, but he takes time when walking up the stairs. It is commonplace for Australian Cattle Dogs to have weak hips, so I suggest we put him on a diet to alleviate the pressure, but Hammer's still young at heart: C'est la Vie!

Ate Van, i.e. Vangie, Banshee, etc.
Ate Van is very ... dramatic. I believe she learned all her social skills from the soap operas she used to watch daily. She spends most days complaining and is prone to ailments, but she's got ample heart and a wicked laugh. I know she loves me, so I decide to attack her during her afternoon catnap.

Documenting them is exhilarating.
Vangie prepares delicious desserts in abundance, Dad sits and orders people around, and my ma... decides to volunteer me for things. Today we went to the old people's home to sing Christmas Carols with the residents. It began to snow (how appropriate), so I took the car that would be least likely to be missed if crashed, our Lexus RX350.

| Dad Has a Sense of Humour... |
The old people home was very funny/fun. My ma starts dancing to all the music, and I'm singing there wondering what the hell she's doing. We play backing tracks on an iPad, though some of the renditions are really horrendous, and we're all wondering, "how many key changes can you put into 'The First Noel'?" A few family members come and join their oldies, including a lovely lady who sits beside her decrepit husband.
Turns out they have daughters, granddaughters, and greatgrandaughters; they've been married for sixty-four years. Roll over, Beatles! "When I'm Sixty-Four" is nothing compared to these two.
