Doomsday

Wasn't Friday the 13th last Friday? I'm pretty sure last Friday was a blast! This week, however, has been a series of ups and downs. I'm feeling pleasantly up right now, but some of the downs were really quite atrocious .... Well just read on, will ya?

Everyday Deterrents

You're just like me. You get up each morning, expecting the fridge to be in working order, or your batch of apples to be edible, etc. etc. And then it isn't. Something's askew. The fridge was left open and the motor failed, or you bite into something hella rotten. 

To my utter dismay, my printer failed this week, as did my bike.

My bike died this week.

Guys, let's all take a moment to acknowledge what I'm saying. The object that's constantly in use, enduring 5+ miles daily, purchased in my first week in Cardiff (Jan 2014). What seemed like my Cardiff-life-long companion, has gone caput. In days past, I would've said, "why here, why now??!?!?!" This time around, as I was biking home at midnight, I said, "Well, I guess this is God's way of telling me to pray?" I just laughed it off, haha. Still laughing, really.

Well, I kneeled down and tried to test the problem, but when a solution wasn't apparent, I walked it home, doubling my travel time. I hoped that it was an easy fix; that a trip to Halford's would rectify my wobbly and grovelling rear wheel. When I got home, I had more reason to laugh. My efforts at fixing the bike left me with this ridiculous nose smudge.

I was celebrating Chinese New Year in the way I knew best: a Tommy gig. +shijie xu has a knack of introducing his band and then saying, "... and this is Tommy." I wish I didn't correct his English, because it's very endearing. This day, he said, "and I'm Tommy." I feel like I lost something magical. 

Regardless, here he is!

My landlady who I talk about all the time, my unlikely hero. 

She let me adopt her printer, which was unused, dusty and needed a fresh cartridge, but on the plus side it worked splendidly, and it's a much more advanced printer than mine!

After taking my bike to the shop and surmising that fixing a broken axel would cost double the price I paid for the bike, I began to shop around for a replacement. Then Carol said, "seriously, just use mine."

The Final Total Loss

Is one that I'd prefer not to mention at all. Just know that I was in a rut, and a few quick messages with +Grace Gilday got me back on track. Love you, girl. Thank you, thank you, thank you.

I met my Fabrizio. 

Sure, he isn't the "tall dark and handsome" Italian prototype we've come to know, but he's my Fabrizio, a passionate, 60 year old Northern Italian with a zest for life and the most portly features a man can possess. He also called my ex-bike my "Ferrari". Long live the memory of Leo Ferrari.

 I volunteer.

I am now an official volunteer with the Sherman Theatre, and I visited the Wales Millennium Centre to usher a sold-out show by Ultima Vez. It was one of the most exhilarating dance shows I've seen to date. In awe.

My ridiculous biking outfit has been seen by at least 6 of my friends, and as far as I know they're still my friends. This poncho now bears some splashes of dirt, leaving my actual clothes in rather good shape! Thank you, ugly poncho. 

And even though people might be like, ???? I got a comment from a party-goer tonight saying, "Hey, at least she's seen!"

I Just Signed My 3rd Contract in Cardiff

Working at Sweet Cafe and Bakery! We had an awesome training session today where I asked way too many questions, but I'm so excited to get started. I'm already so proud of the team, and we haven't even opened the shop. I'm utterly hopeless sometimes ;)
