I Gotta Good Feeling
The Art of Good Job Hunting
You spot it, you size it up, and then you pounce. The art of good job hunting. I've enjoyed every moment of it, whether it be the incessant refreshes of gumtree ads, the meeting in person, or allotting the perfect amount of time so that you casually cycle up, not too late, definitely not too early. It is truly an art.
It is also an art when to start saying "no". Thus far, I've secured one part time job, so I don't think I can rationalise stopping just yet. Plus, I keep finding interesting opportunities. On my first day job hunting in the city, Becky and I said that we would treat ourselves to a pie/mash/mushy peas from Pieminister when we got hired. So imagine how uncanny it was to see this post...

| Yes, very uncanny. |
I hesitated first before applying. I've had some awesome opportunities pop up in the past few days, so I wanted to see to those first. However, a girl's gotta do what she must, and that is apply to be a minister of the pie.
Interview Techniques
When securing my job at Cardiff and County, I really did pounce. I put on a smile, discussed Sydney, my career goals, my need for something casual to get me by. Nick (my new boss) was really receptive, informative as well (he could rattle off the Sydney street names better than me for sure). Simply put, my front-footed approach got me in the door and hired.
When I met with Teaching Assistant Agency #1, I wanted to make sure I wore something professional but versatile. When I arrived, they asked a few questions about my availability and my background with kids. They had me filling out paperwork immediately after that; I don't think they had any reserve of whether or not to sign me on, the questions were more scheduling based. Win #2.
My group interview for Sweet Cafe and Bakery was the most fun of the lot. We played a lot of games, including one where we had to make up a jingle for the shop. Obviously, I was in my element, hahaha. I could honestly see myself setting our jingle to the guitar and playing it on the street.
But hey, I'm still in the interview stages for that job, so let's not get ahead of ourselves. There's always Pieminister.
Not to mention, Whittard still hasn't gotten back to me... hahaha:) I probably scared them a bit.
Cardiff and County
I began working here this week. With the printouts of "how to serve" and "what to wear", I spent a lot of time searching for the right articles of clothing to comprise my uniform, thinking the place was highly uniformed and strict. After my two shifts, I splattered my white shirt with oil, and I've torn a shoe (both of which I bough second-hand; don't worry). Nonetheless, I still took the time to look snazzy for the club members. I weaved my hair into this classy bun for Wednesday, and did my hair in a ponytail with loose curls today.
The Acting Thing
You must be thinking, "Sal, what are you doing in terms of auditions?" Well, it's a tough job, being an actor, and I'm just as willing to pounce on those opportunities as I am to pounce on part time jobs. I've applied for a few things myself, and I know Nikki, my agent, has done as well. We just have to wait and see whether someone will look at my wonderful headshots and say, "That's our girl!"
Until that day (which may never come, but I'm hopeful), I will gladly go job hunting.
Or bargain hunting!
That reminds me, there has been a new addition to my Musical Family.
The name? Cocroon. I got a guitar off freecycle (if it isn't self-explanitory; it was free)! Yeah, somebody advertised and I was quick enough to get it. It is a beautiful little guitar, classical, and has butterflies posted around the mouth. Ergo "cocoon" mixed with "croon". I'm sorry, no other combination of words has caught my attention so vividly, so her name's a bit ugly.... but gosh, it's so wonderful to have her. Right now, my stringed instruments are splayed throughout the world! My guitalele (Gita) is in the states, and my other guitar (Poseidon), is stuck in Sydney. I can never seem to find the room to take them all with me.
I better get going now. My late-night shift at the Club has now leaked into my writing time which has sacrificed sleep time. Goodnight:)
