Mare Incognita

When in drama college, many said, "if you don't try at it for five years, you haven't given it a shot." and "sometimes it'll come down to the final two, and they choose whoever fits the costume." With advice like this plus the auditions attended with over 200 other girls, I was growing in understanding about how long I'd have to wait until the right opportunity came around. I wasn't getting upset or despondent, no; I was actually quite proud of myself because I quickly learned new material and was able to sing it well under pressure.

On Monday, I ventured to learn yet another set of songs for an audition on Tuesday. It was a difficult task because we were required to learn the full song (rather than just a verse and a chorus) so I really had to drill myself on lyrics, nuances with each verse and of course, vocal production. By the time I went to work Monday afternoon, I was in a frenzy, wondering how I'd be able to get it together for the next day. Luckily the preparation was not in vain. With my go-to techniques (writing it out and rapping the lyrics), I was able to feel competent about 2 hours before my audition. Win.

My rocker chick look. Bite Me.

also, find me on instagram if you haven't already!

In the audition, I got through 3 verses of the new song and was congratulating myself (yes, Sally, you're getting through!) when the panel stopped the music and asked me to start over, with feeling

HA!

So I thought about the beginning of last year, about my breakup and my weariness, and I thought about my jobs in London and how monotonous my work days are. I was nearly in tears, but I guess it did the trick. I sang my bit then exited the room. After a very long and adrenaline-filled five minutes, the assistant emerged, asking me for a recall.

My first recall since hitting London. Win.

And guess what? I bumped into the beautiful +Alice Jarvis at the recall!!! We did all sorts of stretches and reenacted a few of our college antics before entering the judgement room with brave faces.

#thighgap LOL. REUNION <3 <3 <3 <3 <3

You're a Witch, Sally

Not gonna lie, I fuc*** up the dance. I kept forgetting one step in the routine which subsequently confused me for the following sequence. However, I just got really into it, and I wasn't just smiley - my face did all types of antics and I threw my hair around and had some fun.

We then had a vocal harmony session which was a piece of piss. I want to thank my choir teachers/mentors, Mr. Ashman, Ms. Christine, Ms. Goudreau, Ms. Miller, Sonia, and Warren. Thank you for throwing difficult sh** at me, because now I'm a confident sight-reader (especially when it comes to pop music, HA!)

As we were leaving the room, they asked me and two others to stay back and explain our paperwork; they then told us we were offered contracts.

So yeah. It's pretty much like being accepted into Hogwarts.

ME?!

okay!

And now we come full circle...

You might be wondering why this is called "mare incognita". Well, if I've been cast on a cruise, surely it can't be "terra" anymore. It is the unknown sea now! I have been offered a contract to travel between Stockholm and Helsinki and plan on meeting my nordic prince in transit.

Other exciting things to happen this week?

We're introducing staff meals at my work before our shifts, where all the KPs and chefs join us in eating at the table. I had a photo, but I think I accidentally deleted it.

I treated myself to the japanese restaurant near my house. I really wanted some chicken noodle soup, and they delivered a mighty fine chicken katsu ramen. I was still hungry so had some nigiri too. Come at me bro, I'm fighting some devilish sickness!
