Irregularity is often looked upon as an inconvenience. You wish you could consistently sleep through the night, or have the bus arrive on time every time, or perhaps you have irritable bowel syndrome! Whatever the cause, it's a bit of a nuisance.
Then there's the other end of the spectrum, where your schedule is so regular you pine for variety. Spice, you could say. Every day we perform. Every day I must eat at certain times and report to the stage at certain times, and of course, sing in consistent rhythms (duh). There are so many "regular" things about this job, but on the other hand, so many irregularities.

Today's spice? A maple pecan pie and chai latte. Ollie and I ventured into the city to find the best cookies in Stockholm. The cafe didn't have any left, so we opted for the delicious cakes instead. We splurged on face masks and bathed ourselves (not quite literally, but pretty much) in fragrances.

This week alone, we've had three cancelled performances due to stormy weather. There have been moments on stage where the waves would suspend us mid-move, accompanied by nervous laughs and looks between us. Even very audible yelps from the audience. There have been as little as 600 guests one night and 2,000 the next, depending on the night. Sometimes we have avid Rock fans who sing along, stand and cry (this happened tonight) alongside a moderately tame audience. I sometimes have really great warm-up sessions where I'm left agile and focused, and other times when I notice silly things, like the fact that I cannot raise my eyebrows without lowering my larynx (i.e. adam's apple). So I document it obviously (in video provided).
All in all, it's been a pretty awesome week. Three of our cast have had loved ones on the ship, making it that much more heartfelt when we perform. Moreover, we're going to be rehearsing our Christmas Special tomorrow, so more curveballs are coming onboard!
The Silja is a place near and dear to my heart, but I think I'll be ready to leave when the time comes. We only have 33 days left! That means just over a fortnight in each city. I've got to lap up what I can, else go to my grave laden with regret. Like this guy.
