The Buzzing Bachelorette
Let it Commence
Thanks to Johanna, I've embarked on "Operation Find Sally a Husband" with vigor. It humors me more than anything else, but Jo and I have downloaded some apps, and I think I've ended up leaving her in the dust in terms of commitment to the cause, hehehe. Still getting over my illness, I spent much of my time cooped up at home, swiping left and right on an app called "Bumble". Thus far, I've found it slightly entertaining, but altogether taxing (but when you've got as much time as sick me, then that's okay). Also, love is patient, right? So I have to be.
As the week progressed, I started picking up more and more odd jobs (as I do). I've now met the two loves of my life (I'm a modern girl now, Ma!), Figo and Archie. I mean, they're both incredibly young and the wrong type of mammal altogether, but the cuteness scale has been broken.

So What's the Deal with Dating Apps?
Throughout the past few years, dating apps and online dating have skyrocketed, making headlines in social media as well as the news. Some people have met their match through match.com, or met their maker through tinder. Being an ex-psychologist student, dating apps have particular perks. I mean, I could potentially treat the whole thing like a social experiment, manipulating variables and documenting the outcomes... I might still.
Firstly, I started off with a few headshots on my profile, but I deleted them shortly after. What's the use of showing potential men a made-up, touched-up, stylized photo of myself? When I turn up to our first date hopping off my bike with my tousled curls flying everywhere, surely they'll have thought I'd duped them. So I kept it simple, choosing photos that I was proud of, but also photos that showed goofy me. Believe it or not, it was very difficult to include those, because they weren't my prettiest self. But they were - and are - true.
Found Anyone Enticing?
When I started out, I'd deliberate over profiles, wondering, "could this be love?" Now, I just swipe left most of the time, and sometimes swipe right to see whether they'd have done the same. I've had between 10 and 20 matches this past week, and once the conversations begin, it's quite easy to play process of elimination. Some people have a wonderful tendency to ask the wrong questions, or ask none at all. Some people don't bother to respond, making for a very futile existence I must say. For a select few, I've managed to keep conversation going, but only just.
Because of the nature of dating apps, I find the numbers a difficult thing to face. Having many matches at once leans towards an unfocused dating environment, where you're constantly trying to remember why you swiped right in the first place, hehehe. I must keep in mind that all's fair in love and war.
Two of my good friends have met their significant others on aforementioned apps and sites. Even my brother Mark +auzzieizm met his partner +Marius Inisconi on Myspace (how old does that make them? Hehehe). I have a certain fondness for the online dating culture, but attraction is easiest for me the old fashioned way, in person.
A photo cannot encapsulate the essence of anyone. A series of photos isn't much closer, and a description of self saying "I work for Deloitte, I'm funny I swear! swipe ----->" really doesn't say much at all. A profile can be tailored to look a certain way, to attract a certain type of person. There are so many variables! When I'm tired and swiping left and right, I'd choose differently to when I'm alert. Moreover, in person, I just know, you know? Just like that Beatles song...
"Something in the way she moves, attracts me like no other lover"
for me, it's deportment. It's about laughter, openness, talent, humility. Things photographs can't paint. And if you talk loudly and with bravado, I will walk straight out of your company and hopefully find a spot where my ears don't flinch at the sound of you.
Wow, I don't think I'm ready for love at all.
Other Bits and Bobs
Lukesta
I saw Luke in Les Mis and he did a tremendous job playing Enjolras! Here's a little something for you... I can't believe 2 years ago, we were crying on the floor of Anita's improv class. We also had a wonderful moment wrestling and cursing each other in that class. God that was a fun time, hahaha. It's a shame society has guarded us against expressing our emotions fully. I like being an actress, thank you very much.

Judi
My self-tape sessions with Judi have continued throughout this past week as she prepares for pilot season in LA. We did an awesome job doing character analysis and acting them out, and I'm learning so much from our sessions. It's a wonder how different television is to stage. Essentially, I shouldn't sing my lines out so avidly; there's a contained nature that I've yet to master, and I doubt I ever will, but by God that doesn't mean I'll stop trying.
Judi flew off this morning for LA, so our sessions are currently on hold, but I look forward to the next set of scripts, characters, stories, and just good old chat. It's great to have an acting friend in her.
Kate
+Kate Vlietstra so wonderfully attended my performance of "The World Goes 'Round" back in 2014, so when it was playing at the St. James Theatre, she urged me to come along, and how glad I was!!! The show was really well-polished, and one of the actors seemed extremely familiar to me. After examining the program, I realized he was in 6: The Musical, a musical I adored in the 2014 Edinburgh Fringe. Kate told me I should marry him. I know this is partly because she's happily in a relationship and can't court him herself, but mostly because of my continual singledom, I'm sure, hehehehe.
Kate has convinced me (well, nearly) that giving up sweets is the cool thing to do for Lent, well... when sweets are the only sure love in your life, it will be a very difficult thing to do.
