Company Call
Side by Side
This week has been so rewarding in (and out) of the rehearsal room. Every day we've been working out, and I love the feeling of sore shoulders, thighs, lower back... every day a little death! It's been absolutely great though, and I just smile all the way through our workouts, mostly at the faces other people pull to get through reps. You gotta concentrate on the positives to get by, am I right?
On Monday, I thought I did some serious damage to my LCL; three days with knee support and elevation, protein and hydration, and I'm nearly healed. The twinges are slight and should be fully remedied by next week. Thanks Mom and Dad, for my reparative genes!
Company is coming along so well. We've already done a performance for our tech and crew, and guess what? It's a budding gem, it really is. I was talking to Dir. James today about our progress, and I just couldn't believe it: we've made Company, a staple in musical theatre, original. We've found nuances I've never noticed before, we've added elements that highlight differences in character, we've staged it so vividly. The beauty of it is, though, that each person is contributing their own take, and we are all feeding off each other and growing. I'm so freaking hippie right now, it's not even funny!
Did I mention we're setting it in '69?
My Sweet Husband
Being Coran's wife in this show has been a walk in the park. Yes, I get jealous whenever he hangs out with other girls or he spends our time together checking his phone messages. On the other hand, we help each other rehearse, spending hours on FaceTime going over lines. We go on dates (Pizza Hut's all-you-can-eat lunch menu is reasonably priced and filling). Hahaha, we don't really frequent the shnazzy places, but it's quality time nonetheless.
Last week, I brought in his favourite snacks (cadburry oreos and skittles) and this week, he made me potato and leek soup - from scratch. We are just ridiculous. Absolutely. I don't know if I can top homemade soup.
No Other News
I love free writing, so I've ... oh actually, there is more news! I'm researching and inviting more agents to come to Company. It's fun to think about what I'd want in an agent and where I'd fit best in the industry, all pertinent questions when it comes down to choosing the right person for me.
Oh right! We are trying to incorporate a Circus feel to Side by Side, one of the musical numbers in Company, and in my desperation to be involved, I offered to learn juggling, hula hooping, and unicycling. The next month will be a very diverse one indeed.
Loving every minute!
I'm sorry this blog is so positive; this show and my role are so ideal, so I really shouldn't get used to it. It's just nice to bask while I'm in it.
Happy Weekend to all!
